C.L.I.T. FEST RICHMOND (COMBATING LATENT INEQUALITY TOGETHER)

June 18, 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RICHMOND, VA - Not since Ladyfest Richmond in 2004 has this city seen such a convergence of active women participants in DIY music and culture. From June 29 through July 1, 2007, C.L.I.T. Fest (Combating Latent Inequality Together) combines shows and workshops to celebrate and promote women's participation and visibility in the DIY community.

The shows, which will be held at Alley Katz in Shockoe Bottom and begin in the early evening each day, feature women-inclusive bands from all over this country and one from Puerto Rico. While musical styles and influences range from folk, hip-hop, crust, and metal, all bands have their roots in the DIY punk lineage.

Workshops include practical hands-on skillshares, health and well-being, radical theory, and a zine swap. Workshops start in the morning and will be held at the William C. Byrd Community Center in Oregon Hill.

In the spirit of Ladyfests, which grew out of the Riot Grrrl movement and are organized autonomously across the country and internationally, C.L.I.T. Fest RVA is unaffiliated with the previous two C.L.I.T. fests. Both were held in Minneapolis and were organized by people involved in Profane Existence, an anarcho-punk record label and magazine. The C.L.I.T. Fest RVA cooperative includes women from Richmond, Washington DC, Baltimore, and Philadelphia.
